IT Improvement Manager (Contract)

Technology Transformation | Cyber Security | Azure | Infrastructure | Process Improvement

Location: Hybrid (UK-based with client site travel as required)

Contract: Outside IR35

Rate: £550–£650 per day

Duration: Initial 6 months (likely extension)

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced IT Improvement Manager to undertake a comprehensive review of their current technology landscape, identify opportunities for improvement and lead the delivery of strategic and operational enhancements.

This is a hands-on consultancy role suited to someone who enjoys assessing existing IT environments, challenging the status quo and implementing practical improvements that enhance security, resilience, efficiency and overall business performance.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior stakeholders to evaluate current infrastructure, systems, processes and governance before developing and delivering a prioritised improvement roadmap.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a broad technical background who combines strong strategic thinking with the ability to deliver tangible change.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Review & Assessment

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the organisation's IT infrastructure, applications, security posture and operational processes.
  • Evaluate existing technology against industry best practice.
  • Identify technical debt, operational risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review current cloud architecture, infrastructure and support arrangements.
  • Assess business continuity and disaster recovery capability.

Cyber Security

  • Review the organisation's cyber security maturity.
  • Identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Assess security policies, controls and governance.
  • Review identity and access management.
  • Evaluate endpoint security, patch management and vulnerability management.
  • Support alignment with Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO27001 or other recognised frameworks where appropriate.
  • Recommend improvements to security monitoring and incident response capability.

Microsoft Azure & Cloud

  • Review the existing Azure environment.
  • Assess cloud architecture, governance and security.
  • Identify opportunities for optimisation and cost reduction.
  • Recommend improvements across:
  • Azure Active Directory (Entra ID)
  • Virtual Machines
  • Networking
  • Storage
  • Backup & Recovery
  • Azure Security Centre / Microsoft Defender
  • Conditional Access
  • Identity Management
  • Support cloud migration or optimisation initiatives where required
