About the Role

We are looking for a reliable Navy Researcher to join our Restore Information Management team at our Swadlincote site. Based in a warehousing and records management environment, this hands-on role supports the safe handling, research and administration of Navy service records, historical ledgers and military archives.

You will retrieve, examine and organise historic documents, produce accurate research reports and assist people seeking information about family members who served during WW2.

This is a meaningful opportunity for someone who takes pride in accuracy, enjoys working with historical information and wants to help preserve important family and naval history for future generations.

Key Responsibilities

Complete and maintain accurate paperwork in line with documented procedures.

Research Royal Navy service records, historical ledgers, archives and military documents (redacting service records manually).

Assist people seeking information about family members who served during the WW2

Examine archives, historical documents and military records with care, accuracy and attention to detail.

Produce accurate, well-organised and clearly written research reports.

Manually retrieve, organise, index and store records, files and archive boxes within the warehouse environment.

Track, check and protect customer information through careful handling and accurate record management.

Maintain confidentiality and follow data security standards at all times.

Follow health and safety procedures and use safe manual handling practices when working with archive materials.

Support operational targets, service delivery and agreed timescales.

What we are looking for

Strong attention to detail, with the ability to handle sensitive and historic records accurately.

Good written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and well-structured research reports.

Confident administrator with the ability to follow documented processes and maintain accurate records.

Comfortable working in a warehouse environment, including handling archive boxes, files and physical documents.

Organised and dependable, with the ability to manage workload and complete tasks within agreed timescales. (Essential)

A respectful and careful approach when dealing with family history, military service records and personal information.

Ability to work independently and as part of a wider operational team.

Basic IT and data entry skills, with confidence using records management systems or similar platforms.

Experience in administration, records management, research, archiving, data entry or a similar detail-led role. (Essential)

Ability to research naval service records and historical ledgers, examine military archives and produce accurate reports that support people seeking information about family members who served during WW2 (Essential)

Strong accuracy, organisation and confidentiality when handling paperwork, customer information and historical records. (Essential)

Willingness to work in an active warehouse environment and follow health and safety procedures. (Essential)

This role is based at Restore Information Management’s Swadlincote site and will involve a mix of warehouse-based records handling, research administration, archive research and report writing. You will play an important part in safeguarding customer information while supporting access to historically significant Navy records.
